FIRE UK blogs I like

Here are some Financial Independence Retire Early and UK investing blogs I like. I don’t believe in following one all-powerful Voice Of Truth, and neither should you!

I think most of them are built on WordPress and have an easy straight-to-your-e-mail subscription feature.

If you wanted something other than more reading material, check out my recommended resources page.

Hardcore investing FIRE UK blogs

Technically most of these are Financial Independence Retire Early blogs, but some are heavier reads about investing while some chart someone’s journey (sort-of like the Financial Independence Campaign) and talk about lifestyle. The list below are the former.

Banker On FIRE

Despite the instant pop-up on the landing page (dude… seriously?), I’ve found Banker on FIRE to be one of my favourite blogs. It’s one of the few that I get straight to my e-mail and will read pretty much as soon as I can.

The premise is that the blog is meant to be a chart-your-journey blog by a London-based investment banker. However, you can see straight away that what counts as “lifestyle” advice for an investment banker is “investment strategy”. I hope BOF doesn’t mind me saying that…

I don’t agree with everything BOF says. They’re well above £1million net worth (I think above £2m?) and still trying to build their pot, so we have vastly different ideas of financial independence. All the same, it’s well written and accessible for most people, and BOF does a great job on making things like market analysis simple enough for my tired morning brain to process. Highly recommended.

Monevator

Monevator was the second ever financial independence blog I actually read. It’s not really marketed as a FIRE blog any more, but I remember one of the authors proudly declaring when they had reached financial independence.

It’s a great blog. A bit more abstract/ esoteric than, say, BOF – but it’s a great place to read about informed opinions on the stock market and big picture factors affecting it.

Lifestyle / chart-the-journey FIRE UK blogs

This is what I would call the “second” camp of financial independence blogs.

These are a bit closer in style to the Financial Independence Campaign.

SavingNinja

If Monevator and BOF are broadsheets of the blogging world, SavingNinja is the fun tabloid in the middle. It’s visually beautiful, really clear, fun to read. I like that SavingNinja does consider things apart from investing and tries to give something to every reader.

SavingNinja publishes roughly every month.

Quietly Saving

I was surprised – and kind of proud – to learn that Weenie is a reader of the Financial Independence Campaign.

Quietly Saving updates approximately monthly, sometimes a bit more frequently. What’s cool is that Weenie outlines her portfolio on the site and you can see that it’s not just one-index-fund-and-forget. There’s a lot of thought that went into it at the set-up, and I think that’s pretty cool.

Home In The Green

Home In The Green is a smaller blog, but I think it’s pretty unique. This is very much an eco-conscious and ethical living blog that has a financial element to it, but it’s from the perspective of someone who values freedom and living sustainably over pure returns.

I did a guest blog post exchange with Home In The Green, which was pretty cool. You can read the post Annie kindly wrote if you’d like a sample: Five Easy Eco Money Saving Ideas. It’s as relevant today as ever.

Life After The Daily Grind

Clearly a student of philosophy, Life After The Daily Grind is again a smaller blog that I don’t see mentioned much on the online communities.

Richard doesn’t post often. I’m subscribed to the RSS feeds and I’ve had something like two since Christmas 2021. However, the posts are well thought out and you’re pretty much certain that you’ll get a quote from philosophy or the classics in there. High brow, great reading in an armchair on an evening in your slippers.
